Our flagship product, Ubuntu, is widely adopted in various cutting-edge enterprise initiatives, including public cloud, data science, artificial intelligence, engineering innovation, and the Internet of Things. Our customer base includes some of the world's leading public cloud and semiconductor providers, as well as industry leaders across multiple sectors. As a company, we champion global distributed collaboration, with a team of over 1200 colleagues spread across 75+ countries, with minimal office-based roles. Team members convene in person for strategic meetings, typically two to four times a year, in diverse locations worldwide.
Canonical is a profitable and growing company, founded and led by its original creators. The role of a Silicon Alliances Ecosystem Development Manager at Canonical involves driving the adoption and optimization of open-source technologies with leading semiconductor companies.
Our aim is to assist enterprises in fully embracing open-source solutions, spanning from the Linux kernel to sophisticated applications like OpenStack and Kubernetes, and extending to data, security, analytics, and serverless technologies. The Silicon Alliances team collaborates closely with semiconductor partners to develop joint product roadmaps, manage delivery, and devise marketing strategies, ensuring that Canonical's offerings remain at the forefront of innovation while still firmly rooted in Ubuntu's principles. The ultimate goal is to enable seamless operations across a range of hardware, from cloud to edge.

We are seeking individuals at various career stages, from early career to senior roles, with a broad range of responsibilities, including exploring new partnerships and managing existing strategic ones.
Location: We are currently hiring for fully remote positions in the Americas. We may consider candidates from EMEA who can adapt to a schedule that supports our Silicon partners in the Americas. Global travel for team meetings and events is a key component of this role.
A typical day for this position would involve:
- Representing Canonical and its products to partners. - Gaining a deep understanding of semiconductor partners' strategies, technologies, and roadmaps, and identifying synergies with Canonical's offerings. - Working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, marketing, and sales, to drive new business opportunities and define joint products and solutions. - Ensuring the creation, tracking, and execution of robust project plans. - Collaborating with partners to develop and execute joint go-to-market strategies and campaigns. - Negotiating successful contracts.
Requirements for this role include:
- A bachelor's degree in science, technology, or engineering. - A foundational knowledge of the semiconductor industry and ecosystem. - Experience in software and system architecture is advantageous. - Previous experience in business development, technology strategy, or similar roles. - Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly. - The ability to operate at both a strategic and tactical level. - A strong commitment to remote work.
Additional skills that would be beneficial include:
- Experience with open-source software and open-source business models. - Leadership or project management experience.
What we offer:
- Competitive base pay, contingent on factors such as location, experience, and qualifications. - A comprehensive benefits package, including a personal learning and development budget of $2,000 annually. - Annual performance reviews. - Recognition programs. - Generous holiday leave and parental leave policies. - An Employee Assistance Program. - Opportunities to travel to meet colleagues at strategic sessions. - Priority Pass for travel and upgrades for long-haul company events.
